Archery is the art, practice, or skill of using a bow to shoot arrows at a target.
It has ancient roots, originally used for hunting and warfare, but today it is primarily a competitive sport and recreational activity.
The term comes from the Latin word arcus, meaning “bow.”
Like most things archery can be as affordable or as expensive as you wish.
A basic recurve bow kit can cost as little as £100 and will give you everything you need to get started.
At Dragon Archers a yearly membership is only £60 (£30 for under 18) which entitles you to lower line fees. We do not require you to be a member of Archery GB (saving you up to £65 a year).
Member line fees are £7 per session (£5 for under 18) and visitors are £10. We also hire bows for £3 per session.
The basic equipment needed to take part in archery are a bow, arrows, a quiver, an arm guard, and lastly a target.
If you do not have any of these items we hire them for our sessions.
If you are a beginner you should visit an archery shop for your first bow. This allows your bow to be custom fitted to you so you get the best out of it for the best price.
Anyone who has completed a beginner course is welcome to shoot with us.
We will require evidence of course completion. If you are unsure if you have completed a course or not then contact us and we will be happy to discuss this with you.
As often as possible! But you must ensure you do so safely by using a range that meets safety requirements.
